Study Abroad Student Visa for Filipino Students

A specific visa or permit is necessary to study in a country like the USA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the UK. It is important to apply for a student visa as early as possible. The visa serves as an endorsement by a country’s immigration department that allows you to enter and stay in the nation for a specific period for your education.

Types of Student Visa Available for Filipino Students

Filipino students planning to study in the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, or the UK usually apply for specific types of student visas. Although student visa requirements and types may slightly differ between countries, it is crucial to consult with an expert counsellor for accurate and up-to-date information. Here's a general overview of the common types of student visas available for Filipino students in these countries:

Student Visa for Filipino Students - the USA

To pursue a higher education qualification in the United States of America, you will also need a student visa. The school you plan to attend and the course you want to undertake determine whether you require an F1 visa or an M visa. If you intend to enrol in a college or university, an F1 visa is necessary. However, if you're joining a short recreational course that does not count toward a degree or academic certificate, you may apply for a visitor (B) visa. Please note that the visitor visa does not permit study leading to a US conferred degree or certificate, even for a short duration. For instance, students participating in distance learning programs that include a period on the institution's US campus must get an M1 or F1 visa before entering to study in the USA.

Student Visa for Filipino Students - Canada

Most international students planning to study in Canada at the primary, secondary, or post-secondary level must obtain a study permit. This permit is typically issued in conjunction with an acceptance letter from a designated learning institution. It is important to apply for the permit before travelling to Canada. Additionally, please note that you will also need a visitor visa or an electronic travel authorization (eTA) to study in Canada. Once your study permit is approved, the visa or authorization will be issued to you along with the permit.

Student Visa for Filipino Students - New Zealand

For full-time study in New Zealand, a Fee Paying Student Visa is required. While there are other visa types available for studying in the country, they may have duration limitations that keep you from pursuing a full-time university degree. On the other hand, the NZ student visa allows you to pursue the said qualification in the country. To obtain this NZ student visa, you must enrol with an approved education provider in the country and bear the full cost of your program.

Student Visa for Filipino Students - Australia

The visa subclass 500 is designed for full-time study at an accredited educational institution in Australia. Enrolling in a full-time, CRICOS-registered course is also essential to qualify for this visa. The subclass 500 visa is a temporary visa that allows you to study in Australia for up to five years, depending on the length and type of course.

Student Visa for Filipino Students - UK

The visa is applicable to students aged 16 or above who wish to study on a full-time basis in the UK. Non-residents can apply for the visa no earlier to study in the UK than six months before their course start date. The decision on the visa application is typically made within three weeks. The duration of stay depends on the length of the course and previous studies completed in the UK. Students above 18 years of age can generally stay in the UK for up to five years if they are pursuing degree-level courses and up to two years if their programs are below degree level.
