Western Sydney University commenced operations on January 1, 1989. According to the terms of the Western Sydney University Act 1988, the Act was passed by the New South Wales State Assembly in December 1988. However, the predecessor of this university can be traced back to the establishment of Hawkesbury Agricultural College in 1891.
